Moong Dal (cherupayar) stir fry

Moong dal or cherupayar is a favourite thing at my in-laws place. So my husband gets a homesick wave everytime he sees this gram. This stir fry is very simple to make and has only few ingredients and today I read 1 cup of raw moong dal gives 3 cups of cooked dal :)

Ingredients
  • Green Moong Dal - 1 cup
  • Oil - 2-3 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Garlic - 3 pods
  • Onion - 3 medium chopped
  • Dry red chillies - 6 crushed (adjust according to your tolerance)
  • Salt to taste
Method
  • Pressure cook moong dal and garlic together until cooked. (Avoid over cooking of gram)
  • Heat oil in pan
  • Add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
  • Add the chopped onions and saute until transparent.
  • Add crushed red chillies and stir.
  • Now add the cooled cooked moong dal and salt to taste.
  • Stir fry on low flame for 5-7 minutes.
  • Serve hot.
