Potato peas stew

A 5 minutes stew to go with appam.

Ingredients
  • Onion - 1 sliced
  • Ginger - 1 small piece chopped
  • Green chilli - 2 cut length wise
  • Potato - 1 cut into big cubes
  • Frozen green peas - a handful
  • Cardamom - 2
  • Cinnamon - 2 small pieces
  • Cloves - 3
  • Bay leaves - 1/2 of a leaf
  • Coriander leaves - chopped small bunch
  • Oil'- 2 tsp
  • Milk - 1 and 1/2 cups
  • Cornstarch - 1tsp
Method
  • Heat oil in a pan or pressure cooker and saute onion, ginger, green chilli, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf
  • Add potato, green peas and salt to taste
  • Stir for a few seconds and add 1/2 cup milk mixed with 1/2 cup water. Cover and cook in pressure cooker until you get one whistle.
  • Mix corn flour and a little milk. Keep aside
  • Open the cooker when all the pressure is relieved and add the remaining milk.
  • Put on simmer and allow to boil.
  • Now add the corn starch-milk mix and stir.(Avoid this step if you like the thick gravy due to corn starch)
  • Add coriander leaves and remove from flame.
Notes
If you want to make this completely oil free add the first 9 ingredients to the cooker with half cup water and wait for a whistle.
Switch off the flame. Once the pressure is relieved, put on the flame, and add milk and allow to simmer
Then add the corn flour paste and allow to simmer till you get a saucy gravy.
Add coriander leaves finally and remove from flame.
